03Parking

The two-car garage nearest the front door is yours; the openers are on the kitchen table. Or use the main driveway.

Keep clear: the gravel drive to the right of the main garage (it's the apartment's), and the other two-car door near the gate.

You won’t need the gate. It’s off to the side and leads to the apartment and the detached garage, so please don’t park there or drive through it or around the back of the house.

Getting into 7310 Antelope Ln

The house sits on 2.5 acres about a mile from Woodmen Road and I-25. Once you're on the deck it feels remote, but dining, shopping and the interstate are minutes away. Colorado Springs Airport is 17 miles south.

  1. 01
    Drive to the house

From Denver International it's about 80 miles south on I-25.

    Directions to the house
  2. 02
    Park in the main driveway

There's plenty of room. The gravel drive to the right of the main garage belongs to the separate apartment, so please leave it clear.

  3. 03
    Let yourself in

Your code is the last four digits of the phone number on your reservation. Press the Yale button at the top of the front-door keypad, enter your code, then press the checkmark button. It works from 4:00 PM on your arrival day. There are two or three steps up at the front entrance.

  4. 04
    Move into your garage

The two-car garage nearest the front door is yours. The openers are on the kitchen table. Please don’t park in front of the other two-car door, near the gate, and leave the gate itself to the apartment.

  5. 05
    Text me when you're in

One line is plenty. If anything isn't right when you walk in, tell me that evening and I'll fix it the next morning.

The front doors, with the digital lock

The lower-level apartment

A separate one-bedroom apartment is locked off on the lower level. It isn't part of your rental and may be occupied while you're here. It has its own entrance and parking, and you don't share any rooms, doors or amenities with it. All 5,000 square feet of the main house are yours.

Sound carries through the floors, so please keep things gentle between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM. The detached garage isn't part of the rental either. We keep the mower and snow equipment there and need to reach it.

Snow and ice

We clear the driveway, the front walk and the steps after any snowfall, usually by mid-morning, with the steps done first. If you’re arriving or leaving while it’s snowing, text me and I’ll have the steps cleared for you.

Four suites, two levels

The main level holds the kitchen, living and dining rooms, the office and two of the suites. The other two suites, the movie lounge and the ping-pong table are downstairs. Every bedroom has its own bathroom.

Air mattressSmall queenFor one more adult, by arrangement before you arrive. A setup fee applies, so confirm the amount with me first.
Pack ’n PlayCribFor one infant or toddler. Already here, no charge.

Each bed has four or five pillows in different fills and lofts, so you can find the one you like, and every suite has extra blankets.

Kitchen

Double ovens, a five-burner gas stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven and toaster, with pots and pans for a full dinner.

Coffee and tea

Keurig and drip coffee makers, a selection of coffees, sugar and creamer. Tea and cooking spices too.

Dining

The formal table has an extension leaf and extra chairs for the whole group. The kitchen table seats six, plus two at the breakfast bar.

Fireplaces

Two gas fireplaces, in the living room and the primary suite, both yours to use. The switch is on the wall near each one.

Downstairs

A movie lounge with oversized leather motion seats, a ping-pong table, two oversized bean bags, and Uno, Monopoly, mini Jenga and puzzles. Sign in to your own streaming accounts on the TV, and sign out before you leave.

Heat and air

Air conditioning on the main level, thermostat in the main hallway. The lower level stays naturally cool and has its own thermostat for heat, on the wall at the base of the stairs.

Work

A dedicated office on the main level and high-speed Wi-Fi throughout.

Laundry

Washer and dryer in the laundry room off the garage entry, detergent in the closet opposite them.

The grill

On the rear deck, connected to the house gas line, so there's no propane tank to swap. Please burn off the grates and put the cover back on after you cook.

Blinds

Between stays we keep the blinds closed to protect the house from the sun and hold the temperature. Open them however you like.

Touch lamps

The two floor lamps in the main-level family room turn on with a touch of the silver disc at the top of the stem. The lamps on the primary suite nightstands turn on when you touch the base.

The private hot tub on the rear deck at sunset, with the mountains on the horizon
The hot tub on the rear deck, at sunset

The hot tub, 15 minutes at a time

Year-round, sheltered on the rear deck, with two reclining lounge seats, and only for main-house guests. It's kept at 99°F, and you're welcome to turn it up, to no more than 104°F. At this altitude a soak hits harder than at sea level, so drink water and keep each one to about 15 minutes.

  1. 01
    Lift the cover

First unclip all five clips, then fold the cover back onto the lifter.

  2. 02
    Use the hot tub towels

They're kept in the primary closet. Please leave the bath towels inside.

  3. 03
    Cover it every time

Close and clip the cover after every soak. It keeps the water hot for the next person and keeps small children out.

  4. 04
Tell me if the water looks off

Cloudy, foamy or cooler than usual, text me rather than adding anything. The water care is handled for you.

No glass in or near the tub. Children always with an adult, and the federal safety advice is no hot tub for children under five. If you're pregnant or have a heart condition, check with your doctor first, and skip it after a few drinks.

Kids: Pack ’n Play and high chair

A Pack ’n Play and a high chair are always here at no extra charge. The Pack ’n Play is in the closet of the main-level queen suite and the high chair is in the laundry room closet. There's nothing to request.

The stairs

Two suites and the movie lounge are downstairs. If you have a crawler or a new walker, the main-level suites keep everyone on one floor at night.

The deck and the tub

The rear deck sits high off the lawn and the hot tub is outdoors. Keep the deck door closed and the cover clipped whenever small children are up and about.

Most guests feel fine. A few get a headache or tire faster on the first day, and these four habits take care of most of it.

  1. 01
Drink more water than you think you need

The air here is dry and you lose water faster. Start the day you arrive.

  2. 02
Go easy on the first night's drinks

Alcohol hits harder at altitude, and harder still in the hot tub.

  3. 03
    Wear sunscreen, even in winter

The sun is stronger up here, and snow reflects it back at you.

  4. 04
    Hike early in summer

Afternoon thunderstorms build over the mountains on most summer days. Plan to be off high ground by early afternoon. Pikes Peak's summit is 14,115 feet, so bring a warm layer for the top, even in July.
